Detroit continues to capture national attention, earning a spot on The New York Times'  list of 52 places to visit in 2025. Highlighted alongside destinations like Amsterdam, New Orleans, and Sun Valley, Idaho, Detroit stands out as a city embodying resilience, creativity, and transformation.

Lauren Matison of The New York Times described Detroit as showing "remarkable signs of renewal," a sentiment echoed by the city’s evolving skyline and community-focused projects. Among the standout features is the revitalized Michigan Central Station. Once abandoned, this historic Beaux-Arts train depot, built in 1913, has undergone a $950 million restoration by Ford Motor Company to emerge as a state-of-the-art start-up tech hub—a fitting symbol for Detroit's comeback story.

Scheduled for completion later this year, the Gordie Howe International Bridge is another testament to the city's progress. This 1.5-mile-long marvel will be North America’s longest cable-stayed bridge, connecting Detroit to Windsor, Ontario. Beyond its function, the bridge is steeped in history, with public art and commemorative signage honoring the Underground Railroad and Detroit's role as a sanctuary for thousands seeking freedom.

Visitors can also look forward to the opening of the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park, a 22-acre oasis on Detroit’s Riverfront. Designed by the acclaimed Michael Van Valkenburgh and Associates, this park will feature basketball courts, a water garden, and a four-acre playground complete with a 20-foot brown bear slide. The Times aptly called it "a lush 22-acre haven."

Detroit’s transformation is as much about its people as its projects. From its burgeoning art and tech scenes to its deep historical roots, the city offers a vibrant mix of culture, innovation, and community. If you’re planning your travels in 2025, Detroit deserves a spot on your itinerary as a must-visit destination.
